How to use a habit tracker
- Pick three to six habits. Make each one specific and small enough to do on a bad day: "walk 15 minutes" beats "exercise more".
- Print the tracker and keep it where you end the day, like on your nightstand or desk, with a pen next to it.
- Fill in the box each day you do the habit. Leave it empty if you don't; the gaps are useful information too.
- At the end of the month, count the boxes and decide which habits to keep, drop or make harder next month.
Make yours in the calendar builder
To see habits on a regular month calendar instead, add an event on each day you completed a habit, with one color per habit. Events show as colored dots on the builder grid and the PDF. There are no repeating events, so each day is added by hand.
Make a habit calendarHabit Tracker FAQ
How many habits should I track at once?
Three to six. The tracker has room for ten, but each extra habit makes the daily check-in longer and it is easier to give up on the whole sheet.
Is it 21 days or 66 days to form a habit?
The 21-day figure is a myth. A 2009 study in the European Journal of Social Psychology found people took between 18 and 254 days to make a behavior automatic, with a median of 66 days, so expect about two months.
Can I track weekly habits too?
Yes. Add a row like "Gym 3x a week" and fill the days you went; the weekday letters along the top make it easy to count each week.
