How to use a meal planner
- Pick a theme for each night of the week, such as soup, pasta or tacos. Choosing a dish within a theme is much faster than choosing from everything.
- Write in the busy nights first (sports practice, late meetings) and give them the quickest meals or leftovers.
- Plan one night a week for leftovers and one for something new, so food gets used up and the menu doesn't get boring.
- Write the shopping list from one week of the plan at a time, and check the fridge before you shop.
Make yours in the calendar builder
In the builder, add each dinner as a note on its date. Notes are marked on the calendar and listed with their dates under the month grid on the PDF, which gives you a printable menu list.

How do I plan meals for a whole month?
Start with a weekly template of theme nights, then fill in four or five weeks of dishes. Repeat favorites every two or three weeks; most families eat the same 15 to 20 dinners anyway.
Should I plan breakfast and lunch too?
Usually only dinners need planning. Breakfasts and lunches are easier to keep on a short rotation of staples you always have in.
