2028 is a leap year with 366 days, and February 29, 2028 is a Tuesday. The next leap years after that are 2032, 2036 and 2040, and 2100 will not be one.

Yes, 2028 is a leap year. It has 366 days, and February 29, 2028 falls on a Tuesday. The previous leap year was 2024 and the next one after 2028 is 2032.

## **Why 2028 qualifies**
The Gregorian calendar has three rules:
1. A year divisible by 4 is a leap year.
2. A year divisible by 100 is not, unless
3. it is also divisible by 400.
2028 divides by 4 and is not a century year, so it is a leap year. 2026 and 2027 are not divisible by 4, so they have 365 days each.

Because 2028 starts on a Saturday, it has 53 Saturdays and 53 Sundays, which gives it one fewer weekday than 2026 or 2027 despite the extra day. It also has 52 ISO weeks rather than 53: a leap year only gets a week 53 if it starts on a Wednesday or Thursday.

The leap day moves five weekdays forward every four years, so it takes 28 years to come back to the same weekday: February 29 is a Tuesday in both 2028 and 2056.
## **The exception coming in 2100**
2000 was a leap year because it is divisible by 400. 2100 will not be, because it is divisible by 100 but not by 400. Anyone born on February 29, 2096 will wait eight years for their next real birthday, until 2104. ## **What the extra day affects**
- **Leap day birthdays.** People born on February 29 usually celebrate on February 28 or March 1 in common years. The chance of being born on a leap day is about 1 in 1,461.
- **Pay and rent.** Salaried staff work one more day for the same annual salary, while hourly workers on a Tuesday shift get paid for it.
- **Day counts.** Any calculation that assumes 365 days, such as interest accrual or "days until" countdowns, is off by one across February 2028.
